Lindorm Legend Mecklenburg In the vicinity of the main road between Neubrandenburg and Stavenhagen, adjacent to the field belonging to Gevezin and Blankenhof, there are three hills: Blocksberg, Jabsberg, and Lindberg. A long time ago lindorms lived there. When they lay outstretched, they resembled a felled fir tree, and they were feared far and wide.
Related Content Overview Raphael was born in Urbino, a central Italian duchy noted for its elegant gentility and Renaissance scholarship. He moved to Florence toward the end of Saint George and the Dragon, one of two versions of the theme by the artist, belonged to a series of miniature panels that Raphael painted in Florence for the celebrated court of Urbino.
A Roman soldier of Christian faith, Saint George saved the daughter of a pagan king by subduing a dragon with his lance; the princess then led the dragon to the city, where the saint killed it with his sword, prompting the king and his subjects to convert to Christianity.
Its inscription, HONI, begins the phrase Honi soit qui mal y pense Disgraced be he who thinks ill of itthe motto of the chivalric Order of the Garter, of which George is the patron saint. A Gift to the Nation.Saint George and the Dragon "Come forth and fight” called the gallant knight, to the dragon in his den “The time has ceased for you to feast on our maidens ever again.” Then through the door with an angry roar, the mighty dragon came.
With a single bound it crossed the ground. Saint George is fully garbed in dark iron armor, realistically depicted with buckles and rivets. Golden spurs indicate that he is a knight. A white surcoat is tied to the armor and bears a red cross, the sign of someone who had gone on a crusade to the Holy Land.
In this production, the Kitchin siblings enacted the romantic legend of Saint George, the patron saint of England, who slayed a child-eating dragon before it devoured a princess. George later married the rescued princess and converted her pagan town to Christianity.
